Post 2: What is a book

A book is a magical object.  A book is a way to escape daily life, and to explore a new world, a new life even.  A book is that gateway from reality to the authors and your imagination.  It allows you to discover new things, learn new words, better your knowledge, and increase your reading speed.  If a book is assigned for a class assignment, or if you choose to read it for the joy of it, the book is still teaching you a lesson, even if you don’t realize it.  A book is practically like a teacher or a mentor because the book, like a teacher or mentor, is able to teach you a lesson.  Choosing whether or not to actually take in the lesson and understand it, is up to the reader or student.  A book isn’t just a bunch of paper with words on the paper, between two covers.  No, a book is a story.  For a book to be a book, there aren’t any specifics about physical characteristics.
It can be tangible and you can be able to flip thru the pages with your hands, or it can be digital where you just have to swipe across the screen to change pages.  It doesn’t matter how you read a book, or what you read a book on, it will always be a book as long as the book tells a story and/or teaches a lesson to the reader.  If it is written by an author, a child, a student, a teacher, or just a ordinary citizen, it will still be considered a book.  If the book has a title, a plot, a setting, characters, and conflict then I will still consider it a book, even if other people do not consider it a book.  Finally, I think what makes a book a book is that it's personal preference whether the reader thinks it is a book or not.
